The Circuit Criminal Division maintains felony grand jury indictments and information cases. This division accepts probation fees, court costs, fines and restitution ordered in circuit criminal cases. This division also assists in processing and refunding bail bonds.

The Circuit Civil Division is the court of general jurisdiction for cases involving more than $5,000, including medical malpractice, personal injury, contracts, property damage in addition to foreclosures, contested probate, property rights and administrative board appeals.
Family Court Division
The Circuit Civil Division also handles Family Court cases, which include the dissolution of marriage, spousal support and equitable distribution; child custody, support and visitation; paternity and adoption; termination of parental rights; domestic violence; dependency, neglect and abuse; and runaways, truancy and beyond control.

The Circuit Court Appeals Division processes all appeals from the Circuit Court to the Kentucky Court of Appeals and appeals from the District Court.
The division also processes requests for copies of videotaped Circuit Court proceedings and the viewing of records located in the Circuit Court Appeals Division. Requests for copies of records that are submitted by mail must include payment.
Older court records are stored in facilities in Frankfort, Ky., and you must request court records directly from those agencies. Typically, court records 15-35 years old are stored at the
State Records Center and you can contact
cathrine.giles@ky.gov or 502-564- 1702. Court records 36 years old and older are stored by the
Kentucky Department of Libraries and Archives and you can contact
kdla-referencedesk@ky.gov or 502-564-1770.
The Circuit Court Appeals Division provides space for attorneys and the public to review public court records. Public terminals are available to assist in researching information and copiers are available to the public.

Domestic violence petitions for emergency protective orders and intimate partner orders of protection are accepted 24 hours a day, seven days a week to assist victims of domestic or dating violence.
Victim advocates are located in
Amanda's Center in the Office of the Fayette County Sheriff. They can identify the type of protection individuals are eligible for and assist with asking the court for that protection. Victim advocates can also provide information about community resources and offer advice based on an assessment of the level of danger present in each situation.
Anyone can be a victim of domestic violence – males and females, dating partners (as defined by Kentucky law), children and adults. Domestic violence knows no economic or educational boundaries and is defined in many ways, not just by extreme violence. Threatening and controlling behavior, violence toward pets and destruction of property can all be considered forms of domestic violence.
