The Division of Research & Statistics collects, analyzes and disseminates statistics for the Kentucky Court of Justice. Research & Statistics provides standard reports including historical caseload statistics, as well as customized reports upon on request.

Interactive Reports

Interactive reports of historical caseload are available via the links below. These reports are derived from the KCOJ case management database (KYCourts/CourtNet). Information for the trial courts – Circuit Court, Family Court and District Court – is entered and maintained statewide by the Offices of Circuit Court Clerk. Historical caseload statistics reported by case category are available for all complete calendar, Kentucky Fiscal, or Federal Fiscal Years since July 1, 1995.

Historical Caseload by case category

Use these reports to answer questions such as “How many Adoption cases were filed?” independently of whether the case was filed in General Circuit or Family Circuit Court.

Historical Caseload by jurisdiction

Use these reports to answer questions about the caseload of a specific jurisdiction – General Circuit, Family Circuit, or District Court.

Archived Static Historical Reports

As efforts shift to the interactive reporting described above, the previously available static historical reports have been discontinued. The most recently completed reports including CY 2011-2018 are below. Caseload statistics are reported on a calendar-year basis (January 1 to December 31) for the total caseload of each jurisdiction (Circuit, Family, and District Court, with prepayable District Court cases reported separately), and with additional reports specific to Domestic Violence cases and criminal cases including charges of Drug and DUI offenses. Refer to the Statistical Analysis Considerations, Statistical Codes & Definitions, Glossary of Terms, CourtNet Disclaimer and the Uniform Offense Reporting Codes for more information. Historical reports from previous years are available upon request.

Research & Statistics also provides customized statistical reports as requested by state government agencies, law enforcement entities, the media, and the public.
